• This festival of Jallikattu got banned by supreme court by passing an judgement on 7th May 2014 and Supreme Court confirmed a ban on jallikattu and bull races. From 2010 – 2014, there were approx 1200 human injuries and 18 deaths as a result of Jallikattu events. During race, bulls are often hit with nail-studded sticks to run.
• The Union government on 20th jan 2017 cleared the state’s draft ordinance+ to amend the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, enabling the conduct of jallikattu.
• On 21st jan 2017 Tamil Nadu Governor C Vidyasagar Rao has promulgated an ordinance for the conduct of jallikattu.
